Winning the fastest 40-yard dash for his age group with a time of 4.798 seconds and also claiming the fastest shuttle with a time of 4.31 seconds Carlos Fernandez had an impressive showing at our most recent AZ Youth Football Combine. This 5’11 DB/WR currently goes to La Joya High School. Carlos has a reach of 7’7″ and weighs in at 162 pounds and has a 25.5-inch vertical. Fernandez emulates players like Richard Sherman, Jalen Ramsey, and Odell Beckham Jr. During the combine Fernandez had the opportunity to work with coach and NFL Alumni DB Dyshod Carter who played for the Patriots, Browns, and Arizona Cardinals. Fernandez has great size, speed, agility and at age 15 holds the 4th fastest 40 ran at our combine to date. Only a sophomore, Fernandez has great potential and like Richard Sherman plays both DB and WR and shows good hands and ball skills. AZYFC welcomes this young play maker to the state of Arizona.
NFL PLAYER COMPARISON:
Richard Sherman ran a 4.54-second 40-yard dash at the 2011 combine and had a 38-inch vertical. Sherman, a converted wide receiver separated himself in the league with his elite balls skills and play making ability. Sherman is known for his discipline and technique on the field and is a student of the game. Putting in time in the film room and studying his opponents often resulted in opposing quarterbacks learning bad things happen when you throw to Sherman’s side of the field. Sherman’s size and press coverage ability was a perfect fit for Pete Carrol’s Seattle Seahawks defense. Sherman’s 2017 season was cut short with a torn Achilles and he was signed by the San Francisco 49ers. It will be interesting to see how quickly 49ers fans will embrace Sherman– a once hated rival. On December 2nd, 2018 the 49ers travel to Seattle, that should give Sherman plenty of time to shake the rust off, get his legs back and get ready to go to battle with Russell Wilson.
